It’s not exactly burnout you’re feeling. It’s probably something more profound—and more hopeful…
Have you outgrown the life you thought you wanted?
You followed the rules. You built the life you were told you should.
Go to school and get a degree
Land a good job and start making decent money
Fall in love and get married
Have 2.5 children
Buy the house and put a nice car in the driveway
Take the annual vacation your employer hands out like a little treat
You checked all the boxes! Right?
From the outside, it probably looks like success. But on the inside? Something has shifted.
You feel restless. Maybe a little empty. Or like you’re living someone else’s life.
It’s not exactly a crisis. It’s the quiet realization that you’ve outgrown the life you built. The one you thought you had wanted. And that’s more common and more fixable than you think.
The 5 Signs
Your wins don’t really feel like wins anymore
You’re still achieving, but there’s no excitement or sense of lasting accomplishment. You land the promotion, get a raise, and the pats on the back, and… you feel nothing. It all feels kind of hollow now.
You fantasize about quitting your job and starting a new life, but you have no idea what you would do instead
The dream of starting over plays in the back of your mind every week. Maybe every day! But your identity is so closely tied to your current path (i.e., your job, your income, your lifestyle) that it feels impossible.
Your work and personal calendars are completely full, but your passion for any of those commitments is gone
You’re productive, but it feels meaningless. You do what you should be doing, but there’s no spark.
You’ve stopped even dreaming about what’s possible or what might come next
You used to feel excited about the future. Do you remember those days when a wonderful life seemed ahead of you? Now you just try to get through the week.
And, of course, you feel guilty for feeling this way
You have everything you wanted, so why aren’t you happy now? The guilt keeps you stuck and silent. So, you keep grinding away on the same path.
So, what now?
If any of this resonates, here’s the truth: You didn’t fail. You evolved. But your life hasn’t evolved with you.
That’s what coaching can help you do. You can create a second act that fits who you are now, not who you were 15-25 years ago.

Spot on, Larry! I recently started out on my own (again!) for some of the exact reasons you mention. Outgrowing is a good sign! Time to do something about it. 😎
