Would You Sacrifice Everything for Your Why? (Issue 147)
It's worth it for the people you love most
This is my “Why.” What is yours?

Having a family like this is the life I dreamed of having when I was a young man. They are why I worked so hard to finish my Ph.D. in the months leading up to the birth of our first child.
Why I worked so hard to build my first business when we had two little ones to keep happy, healthy, and safe. Why I swallowed my pride during the Dot Com Crash to return to a corporate job when our last child was born.
Why my wife and I worked so hard to raise them, educate them, send them off to college, and support them as they left the nest to build their new lives.
And why we’ve created a flexible, location-independent business and life so we can travel and spend as much time with them as we want and they might need.
Pursuing my education was hard, but worth it. It changed me for the better.
My corporate years were hard, and I know I express little love for corporations. But my tech career did enable experiences and opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I met wonderful people who are still a part of my life. I am thankful for it all.
However, at this point in my life, as the remaining years are rapidly draining away, I need the flexibility of my solopreneur business so I have the time, space, and freedom to focus on my health and family.
I want to spend as much time with them as possible now. I want to see as much of this beautiful world as I can. I want to live life fully, up to my last remaining breath.
This is my why. Do you know what yours is?
I hope your why helps you focus your work and life on what matters most to you, so you can live life on your terms.
You deserve that.
