Sometimes, experiences are richer when shared with someone else. However, there are timesābelieve it or notāwhen an experience is better solo.
But, the worst experiences, hands down, are the ones you avoid because you donāt think you deserve them or feel silly doing them alone.
I can still remember the first time I:
Watched a movie in a theater alone.
Took myself out to a nice dinner alone.
Enjoyed a museum and art gallery alone.
Explored a city in another country alone.
Worked out in a small gym alone.
Guess what? The world didnāt end. No one stared at me. No one pointed at me and laughed.
And⦠those experiences were delightful and memorable. Iām glad I took the plunge to treat myself to something rare and enjoyable, even though others would not or could not join me.
I donāt know how many times Iāve heard my friends remark that they didnāt do something fun because no one else was available to join them. So, they:
Ate dinner alone in their hotel room even though they were in an amazing new city with hundreds of wonderful restaurants.
Avoided a museum or art gallery that they were itching to explore because they thought it would be too weird to go solo.
Refused to take a trip to another country because none of their friends had time to go with them.
Life is too short for that nonsense!
My approach to life isā¦
āIām going to have this experienceāwith or without you. Iād love to have your company, but Iām still doing it even if you wonāt join me.ā
Iāve never regretted it once. Iāve always been glad that I had a memorable experience that I otherwise would have avoided. I hope you dive in and treat yourself, too!
