Block a recurring daily 30-min private appointment on your calendar just for you.
I have a standing appointment on my daily calendar first thing in the morning. It’s my quiet time to make coffee and journal for at least 30 minutes.
I’ve learned that I need this time to ease into the day, get my head straight, and focus my thoughts. It’s also when I’m most creative — before I check email and social media.
I don’t know when you need some time just for yourself every day.
Maybe you’d also like to have some morning time to think.
Or maybe you need a break in the afternoon to catch your breath between meetings.
Or, you might want 30 mins to decompress when your workday ends.
No matter what you decide, I know it will help you. We all need some time to rest and recover. We all need time to think.
Sometimes you need an entire day off
I've never regretted taking a day off from work and going for a hike with my family, like I did yesterday. Not once.
However, I have most definitely regretted missing some of my children's birthdays when I could NOT take a day off from work.
Yes, your career is important.
Yes, you do have to make a living, and sometimes you're supporting a family.
But always keep those priorities straight.
Your loved ones and your life should always be on the top of that priority stack.
Take care of yourself.
Take care of your relationships.
I know it sounds a little trite, but a job is a job. It may not always seem like it, but you can always find another job.
But you can't just "find" another life.
And, you can't "find" those lost moments when you should have put yourself or your family first.
Be ambitious and chase those goals, but always make time to live life along the way.
