I spiraled down the other day after reading the morning news.
If you live in the U.S., you know what I’m talking about. The bad news keeps rolling in, day after day.
It ruined my entire day. I couldn’t focus on work. I couldn’t be creative, and I didn’t feel like writing.
As a solopreneur business owner, I must keep my head in the game. So, something has to change. I decided to balance my desire to be informed with my need to live my life and run my business.
From now on, I will not read the news first thing in the morning. I can’t let it ruin my day. I will also not read the news right before going to bed. It ruins my chances of getting a good night’s sleep.
I will do my usual morning routine of enjoying coffee and journaling. Then, I’ll work out and shower. And then, I’ll get to work on my business (e.g., coaching calls, writing, podcasting, creating course material).
Late afternoon—before dinner—I’ll check on the news. That gives me time to see what’s going on, recover, clear my head, and go to bed later without it all swirling around in my mind (I hope!).
If you’re overwhelmed by it all, limit your news exposure. Too much of it is not a good thing for any of us right now.
