Soon, my children will all be in their 20s. An amazing thing is happening at this phase of their lifeāand mine.
I'm learning from them.
They're teaching me new things and sharing the knowledge they've discovered. Theyāre helping me grow and understand the changes happening in our society. Thanks to them, my mind remains open to new ideas.
How cool is that? š
I know this hasnāt always been the case with previous generations. I can think of a few older individuals in my life who are certain they know everything and have all the answers. They refuse to consider new points of view. They become angry about the changes in our world and wonāt even discuss them.
Thatās sad. Itās also pretty arrogant. You canāt learn anything new if you believe your mind is already full. Or if you believe you are always right and others are always wrong.
It also requires flexibility and compassion on the side of the younger folks. There were a few times I was confused, asking questions, and genuinely wanting to understand. That didnāt mean I disagreed with them or was refusing to learn. I just needed to ask those questions to gain clarity and understanding. Luckily, they are becoming more patient with me when they see that I really have good intentions.
No one has all the answers. And the universe hasnāt gifted you with absolute knowledge of the world simply because youāre growing older. Keep your ears, heart, and mind open to learning from younger people. If you learn from them, they just might be more willing to learn from you, too.
