Hereās a life-changing mindfulness exercise you can try today.
First, imagine you only have one year left to live.
What would you do with that year?
Would you still go to work?
Would you keep living where you are right now?
Next, imagine you only have a month left in your life.
How would you spend that month?
Who are the people you would most want to see?
How would you live in those days?
Then, what if you only had one day left in your life?
How would you spend that 24 hours?
Would you sleep in?
Would you watch Netflix?
Finally, you only have one hour to live.
What would you do with that hour?
Who would you spend that hour with?
What would you want to say to the most important people in your life?
Take this exercise seriously, and you will reveal what matters the most in your life. Everything else is secondary.
Of course, we canāt live our lives as if every day is our last. Some people suggest that, but it's not realistic. We still have to go to work, make a living, pay taxes, save for retirement, and prepare for the future.
However, you can be more mindful with your priorities and how you spend your time.
You can take charge of your life and guide it in a direction that lets you have more control and more meaning. You can stop letting other people and other things determine your priorities and how you spend the precious few moments you have in this lifetime.
Itās your life. You decide what to do with it.
