I'm encountering more rude behavior lately
I sometimes share photos of my food on Instagram. Yeah, I know. That makes me ābasic,ā right? Or does that mean Iām āmidā? I canāt keep up with the latest slangā¦
Inevitably, someone says something rude about it:
āOh, yuck. I hate Brussels sprouts.ā
āThat looks good if you remove the pickles. Theyāre gross.ā
āNice BLT, but take off the tomatoes. Yuck.ā
What the heck? Who does that?
Iāve encountered variations of this behavior frequently over the years:
Someone once made negative comments about a striped shirt I was wearing.
Another person said they didnāt like my new car.
A coworker told me I made a mistake with the phone I purchased.
A friend said I was stupid for doing Crossfit.
Gee, thanks for that input!
I donāt get it.
Thereās no need for that kind of behavior. Maybe itās just me, but it feels rude and disrespectful. I would never put down someoneās choice about something they like. Let them enjoy it!
Be kind and move on. Keep your negative opinion to yourself.
Has everyone forgotten the basics?
āDo unto others as you would have them do unto you.ā
āIf you have nothing nice to say, donāt say anything at all.ā
This should translate to online behavior, too. If you see something you donāt like in your social media feed, scroll past it and move on with your day. You donāt need to chime in with a rude comment or start a fight in the comments section.
Be kind and support people, or move on and leave them alone.
