My family had a mini-reunion to celebrate my mother’s birthday this past weekend. It was a great opportunity for us all to reconnect and catch up.
We all have families, so life gets busy! Before you know it, years have gone by.
My siblings and I went for a hike in the Rockies one afternoon. It was just the four of us. No spouses. No kids.
I don’t think all of us have hung out like that for over 30 years! So, it was bittersweet. We spent a little time being sad and beating ourselves up for not making time for this sooner. But we quickly went into planning mode to discuss how we should do a short sibling retreat like this every year from now on.
The plan is to research and choose a new place we want to go hiking and then find a cabin we can rent for a long weekend so we don’t feel rushed. We want time to talk, laugh, eat good food, and share things we can only talk about with each other.
So, my tip for you is to avoid our regrets of not doing this sooner. Maybe you already do something like this. But if you don’t, I highly recommend setting up an annual retreat to reconnect.
Life is short, and the years flash by more quickly than you can imagine!
