💡 Fitter in My 50s Than I Was in My 20s (Issue 169)
You can choose to lose that holiday weight forever
17 years ago, I woke up after the usual holiday excess and committed to recovering my health and wellness. I started…
Lifting weights daily
Hiking, running, or skiing weekly
Eating healthier (e.g., cutting out a lot of fast food garbage)
Maintaining a much better sleep schedule
I lost over 40 lbs and soon felt better than I had in decades. I’m literally stronger now than I was in my 20s (I used to be a skinny kid), and I never put that bad weight back on. The exercise habit became pretty easy to continue after the first year or so.
I enjoy working out so much that I feel lousy when I skip a workout or two. It’s also a great way to burn off stress and stabilize my mood.
A white-collar desk job isn’t the best for building muscle mass, cardio endurance, or energy levels. If you’re a solopreneur, you can balance work like that with time for daily exercise. If you’re an employee, put your workouts on your calendar and stick to them.
Sure, your career is important. But your health is essential to your wellbeing, longevity, and ability to enjoy life later.
If you neglect it in your 20s to 40s, be prepared to be miserable in your 50s, 60s, and beyond. I see the consequences of that all the time.
Take care of yourselves, folks! You can always find another job, but you can’t buy a new body (yet).
