Cookies, gummies, and treats. Oh my!
This year, my family agreed to make each other treats for Christmas gifts. So we all baked and cooked up batches of yummy goodness to ship to everyone.
We decided we don’t really need more stuff in our homes. In fact, we’ve all been selling and donating things for years to declutter.
Years ago, we realized we appreciate experiences and homemade gifts way more than things we purchase. Our children are adults now. So, if they really want or need something, they buy it.
The thing we value the most is time together. For example, we all traveled recently to spend Thanksgiving as a family. Since we couldn't do that again for Christmas, we sent each other homemade treats instead to show that we were thinking about each other.
Of course, I know younger children still want toys. I’m not saying you should completely give up gift-giving. But, I’ve seen some toy rooms crammed with wall-to-wall toys and games, making me question the value of tossing a few more toys on a pile of hundreds.
We're finding that this new system of experiences (e.g., vacations together) and homemade gifts makes a lot of sense when your family is grown!
