Life passes by in the blink of an eye.
Trust me. I feel like I was just 25 yesterday…
I remember starting my journey with my full life ahead of me. I experienced feelings of hope, excitement, and anticipation. I was going to see the world, achieve great success, and create a fantastic life. It was all just beginning…
Yet somehow, here I am now — on the backside of the long journey. Much older than 25 😉. I’m closer to the end than the beginning.
I've achieved many things I dreamed about and a few I hadn't even considered. But I also failed to accomplish many things I had hoped I would. Now, it feels like time is running out, and I may die before I do.
Recently, I was thinking about how absolutely essential it is to look fear in the face, push through, and do those things you're scared of trying. I can think of times I pushed through my fear and made things happen (e.g., conquering my fear of public speaking). But I also know there were times I delayed and put things off because I didn't feel ready (e.g., writing a book). I didn’t think I was talented enough. I was sure I would fail if I didn’t learn more and prepare for longer.
But…
Weeks turned into months.
Months turned into years.
Years turned into decades.
I wish I believed then what I know now: There's nothing wrong with failing. We all fail at many things. But you have to at least try if you want to taste success.
There's also nothing wrong with looking foolish. What is that, anyway? The masses judging you because you are braver than they are? Who cares what most people think?
The only people who will judge and laugh at you are the ones who don't matter. Great people will always be thrilled to see someone brave enough to take a chance at making a dream come true. They will cheer you on.
Pay more attention to the supportive few than the cowardly many.
You don't want to reach the end of your days with regrets. You don't want to — finally — get the courage to try, only to discover that you're out of time.
Of course, this isn’t easy, but you must:
Be brave.
Take calculated risks.
Do something amazing with your life.
And don't wait. Don't wait another minute to start.
Start working out.
Start making your art.
Start writing that book.
Start playing that guitar.
Start improving yourself.
Start that dream business.
Start seeking that new job.
Start pursuing that promotion.
Start becoming that person you want to be.
Take the smallest first step you can and move forward to make it happen. A little progress every day is better than doing nothing but dreaming forever.
